The Women Take Kona

October 14 will be a historic day as the women line up at the start of the World Championship race in Kona. All eyes, media attention, and support will be focused solely on the over 2,100 women who will start their 140.6-mile journey from Kailua Bay that morning.

Although triathlon has had a long history of equal prize money, it wasn’t until 2022 that women had their own race (with several hundred age-group men in the mix) and an equal number of slots for the pro women. Read more about our history and why it matters.

Together, we will usher in a new era in women’s triathlon. Whether you’re watching from home or racing in Kona, join us as we celebrate the best women in the sport!

Meet the Pro Women

The best women in the world will tackle a 2.4-mile swim, 112-mile bike, and 26.2-mile run. Since the early 1980s, the race in Kona, Hawaii has shaped legends and created icons. Julie Moss crawled down Ali’i Drive in 1982 and brought the sport to the global stage. The Queen of Kona, Paula Newby-Fraser, won eight times—but even she wasn’t immune to collapsing just 400 meters from the finish in 1995. Chrissie Wellington elevated the field. Mirinda Carfrae ran down a nearly 15-minute deficit to win. And, in 2022, American Chelsea Sodaro became the first new mom to cross the line first, just 18 months after giving birth.

What will happen this year?
